Bakáts tér and Tibetan Eatery
The Bakáts Square Church (also known as the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church) is a remarkable example of Neo-Romanesque architecture in Budapest’s Ferencváros District.
The church was designed by Miklós Ybl, one of the greatest architects of the 19th century. Construction finished in 1879.
The church is covered with red brick and Sóskút stone. It spans 66 meters in length and has three apses. The central tower on the facade reaches a height of 66.7 meters.
The three-nave church features an east-west axis and a Roman cross layout. Its design is rich in detail. The church underwent extensive restoration, including the renovation of the facade, tower, walls, and stone cladding. A new urn burial section was created by expanding the crypt, and the interior received various upgrades.
The Bakáts Square Church stands as a testament to Ybl’s talent and remains an important landmark in Ferencváros. If you visit, take a moment to appreciate its historical significance and architectural beauty!
Tibetan Eatery
Tsewang Namgyal’s tiny eatery offers momos (dumplings) and comforting noodle soup. A unique culinary experience awaits.
